Twilight

Saw Twilight over the wkd. Had read the book last week. Yes, my call, not Gf's. Movie wasn't as good as book- how'd ja guess? - but not bad and I liked that I saw it. Not just so I can surprise niece.5. It's funny about the film- so much they couldn't just get into the cinema. But they tried.

The clever part that made me smile is the nod to the cover of the book. Essentially, the book/movie is about a human and vampire who fall in love. The vampire - an impossibly handsome, impossibly smart, and good natured boy - is also impossibly physically gifted. If this were baseball, he'd had like 5000 steals in his Hall of Fame career when he retired*. So, he opens the door to the car to let her out instantly the second the car stops. He is able to cross the a parking lot when a giant van is about to crush Bella, the girl star, in an instant. He can run through thickets in 1/100 of the time it takes humans to.

So - it wasn't in the book - but there was a real cute scene where they referenced the cover of twilight, and I thought it was clever. The books all have a stylized type of cover so that readers know all four books are in a series - 500 paged block looking physically, black covered, same font, etc - and a single picture on the cover. On Twilight itself, the cover is of an apple being held out (as if being offered) in two hands. Again - not in the book - but there was a scene in the lunchroom where Bella (the girls - no, that's not her) was in line and she dropped an apple. Instantly Edward Cullen - the loveinterest/vampire/17yo boy - appears, bounces the apple soccer style off his foot - and rite into his hands just like the cover of the book. Instant boom! I liked that reference a lot. Nice nod to us readers.

..........................................
* a nod to Ricky Henderson's all time record of like 1, 400.
**= not a picture from the movie - that's Rachael Leigh Cook, w/ a QUOTE from th book/movie. After some moments of contemplation.... i used it. Why? Well ....

Pinhead and the mad scientist evil gorilla are both a performed by a brilliant Italian actor who has since retired. Lisa is performed by Marta.

It compares nicely to "Umberto D".
