I agree. I liked the finale, but as soon as it ended, I consciously thought that many (maybe most) fans would hate it. With all of the expectations of "Tony gets whacked" or "Tony goes to prison" or "Tony turns rat," I can't help but think that the best twist ending was "Tony endures." One of the show's great characteristics was its humor, and the finale had a lot of humor in it (Tony's "shishkabob" line being my favorite). Its ending reminded me of the finale for "Cheers," which ended with Sammy and several regular characters enjoying cigars and conversation after a big day...the bar closed for the night but comfort in knowing it would be open for business the next day. I'm comforted knowing that Tony and his crew will be back in business the next day.
