Plans to try trivia night at the Tilted Kilt were thwarted when those scheduled events turned into “to be determined” sites. One can only assume that the schoolgirl-garbed waitresses had had enough of the dirty old man host. As a result, J&B found itself back at the overly friendly Salerno’s this week.
J&B represented by: Chemical Man, Stix, MG and Lazers
The Competition: Auntie Joanne, Mariche, So Long Sopel, Penny Ante, Sharks, and late arrival Awesome. The Sharks were introduced as “one of the greatest teams in history.”
First half: Ireland/ABC Soap Operas/80s Music
This Irish county name also is a rhyming joke?
This Irish county is the western-most one?
It’s a county, a city, and a bay in Ireland?
This Irish county also is the 4300 W street in Chicago?
This Irish county also is a Gilbert O’Sullivan song?
All My Children” is set in this town?
“General Hospital” is set in this town?
Who played Dr. Noah Drake on “General Hospital”?
What year did “All My Children” start?
Who sang the theme to “Ghostbusters”?
After that last question-
Benkowski: “If there’s something strange, in your neighborhood, who ya gonna call?”
Stix: “Benkowski!”
Benkowski: “I guess that’s better than being the something strange.”
Benkowski reprimand: “Auntie Joanne, I’m issuing you a comprehension notice- know when it’s your turn!”
Awesome (which featured two decent, tall girls) wins a “Biggest Tattoo” challenge, with the brunette girl lifting the back of her top for Benkowski to see it-
Lazers: “I didn’t see it.”
Benkowski: “If you want to see it, you have to host the show.”
Scores at the half: Auntie J 920 J&B 660 Mariche 630 Penny Ante 630 Awesome 420 Sopel 310 Sharks 290
Second half: World War II/90s TV/Celebrity Crimes
That’s right, Hilts- categories about Ireland and WWII tonight!
1940- who won the Battle of Britain (Benkowski: “The answer is an army”)?
1945- the Battle of Okinawa involved Yamato- what was Yamato?
What were the British protecting in the Battle of Britain?
The Battle of the Bulge took place in what country?
The Battle of El Alamein took place on what continent and involved what British general?
What actress won 5 Emmy Awards for “Best Actress in a Comedy”?
I don’t recall if this was a new “Ladies Only” challenge or not, but the second half did feature a “Largest Feet” challenge, which Benkowski initially tried to measure without the ladies taking off their shoes (one wore sneakers while the other wore high heels- how the hell did he think he could measure that with the shoes on?).
Scores after two halves: Auntie J 1500 J&B 1440 Mariche 1240 Sharks 1210 Awesome 1180 Sopel 710 (note: Penny Ante left after the first half)
J&B wins the “guess a number between 1 and 50” lottery and will get the first choice of categories for the live finale. The options were: Salma Hayek Movies, African Capitals, In the News, Food Facts, Current White Sox, Celebrity Year of Birth, 70s Music, 60s Movies.
J&B wagers to beat the 3rd place team by one if it doubles. No sense in playing around with the category options, either:
J&B- selects 70s Music:
1977- sang “Higher and Higher”?
1971- sang “Stay Awhile”?
1974- sang “Locomotion”?
Auntie J- selects Food Facts:
Chop Suey was invented in the US by Chinese immigrants in what state?
1st breakfast cereal produced in the US (2 words)?
Average American eats how much food in their lifetime (w/i 10 tons)?
Awesome- selects Salma Hayek Movies:
Her male co-star in “Fools Rush In”?
2002- won Best Actress for what movie?
She kills what actor in “From Dusk Til Dawn”?
So Long Sopel- selects Current White Sox:
At All-Star Break- which pitcher led team with 112 innings pitched?
Last game before Break- 4 Sox hit homers in 1 inning- name 2?
Minimum 26 innings pitched- reliever with lowest ERA at Break?
Sharks- select 60s Movies:
Movie ends with an elephant breaking John Wayne’s bed?
Movie features the song “Moon River” and George Peppard?
Music-oriented movie followed the search for Paul’s grandfather?
Mariche- selects African Capitals:
Capital of Egypt?
Capital of Kenya?
Capital of South Africa?
Benkowski never gave the News or Celebrity YOB questions. Gentlemen?
